Detour through Grief and Loss: Renewed Life Direction via Embracing Compassion for Others and Myself7/15/2020 Kizzie Jones was a guest on LaVon Hardison's podcast, Detour to Where, today. She tells a 10-minute story of the detour to her path as a chaplain. As Pastor Francis Geddis placed the stole over my shoulders at the Marin Fairfax Community Church in California during my ordination he said, “When you want to make God laugh, tell Her your plans!” I’d already had a dose of God’s mirth as I explored and discarded internships and looked for my eventual calling. I didn’t know exactly what my calling would be, but I was certain it was not serving in a church or in health care! With those plans, I made God laugh! Much gratitude to LaVon Hardison for inviting me to share my journey through grief and despair to my move into a meaningful future—truly a Detour To Where—I could not have imagined. This is a remarkable personal story of how grief ultimately led Kizzie to become a compassionate and dedicated Chaplain. Her journey is compelling and emotional. This is a wonderful podcast...the interview, as well as La Von Hardison's role as moderator has created such a captivating show.

I truly was moved by the sad and yet heartening story of Kizzie's coming to her spiritual caregiver life work. She has now become a children's book author and has carried her previous skills into her wonderful stories.
