ReviewsThe 28th Annual Writer's Digest Self-Published Book Awards judge’s commentary on my entry of A Tall Tale About Dachshunds in Costumes: How MORE Dogs Came to Be (2020) gave 5 points (meaning “outstanding”) in every one of the 6 evaluation areas! The commentary praised my work, picking the areas I am most proud of: imagination; exploration of the world; love of animals; nature information, and a fine, non-overwhelming, glossary.
“I really appreciated the high quality of the cover design and production value. Specifically, the design of the pages and glossary are very well executed, and a well done glossary in a children's story is a wonderful thing to come across. “This story is imaginative and unique, following charming turns of imagination beyond what I had expected! I love being surprised in a story and the exploration in this plot is the perfect level for young readers. “The way the story concludes demonstrates the different things that dogs can do and starts to open up the eyes of readers to the needs of others and the way those needs can be filled and enhanced by canine friends.” A TALL TALE ABOUT DACHSHUNDS in COSTUMES: How MORE Dogs Came to Be by Kizzie Jones – Children’s Books, Children’s Dog Books, Children’s Fantasy & Magic Books. Through several ‘tests’ of her perceived similarities, including sensory moments that add realism to the story, Goldie [the dachshund] accepts that differences exist between the two [her and the pelican], just as they do between herself and the girl. Resonant lesson here, and a bright core of connection. Nicely done. Author’s tone is bright, and age-appropriate language keeps the reader engaged."
