I really love this piece of prose poetry. The poet does not sentimentalize the tulip fields but presents an historical portrait of brothers bending and planting row after row by hand, and a small girl stepping into their muddy footprints. She rails against the commercialization of these fields in the present. At the same time she helps us feel the allure of visiting our old home places and our deepest memories. She perfectly recreates the thrill of seeing the snow geese rise, the sight, the sound, and the sensation of wind caused by hundreds of wings beating.

Thanks Monda for your sensitive reflection of Joanne’s heartfelt and vivid prose poem. 🌷
