I was fortunate to take piano lessons since the second grade and stayed active in piano and choir throughout school. Because of COVID-19 protocols, many children may not have the opportunity to study an instrument or benefit from music classes during their vital formative years. COVID-19 changed the avenues for education significantly as many children are learning virtually due to social distancing mandates. Even though students may not attend in-person classes, there are options to keep musical skills sharp or begin learning a new instrument with virtual lessons. Here are some ways online music classes can help.

Children Can Learn at Their Own Pace
When children are in a music class at school, they are taught at the same pace as their classmates. A child may need more time to focus on one aspect of the lesson, and depending on the size of the class, the teacher may not have enough time to focus on each child’s specific needs. When your child takes music lessons online, you can work with the teacher to develop a lesson plan that is tailored to the way your child learns best.

Online Music Classes May Be More Affordable
When children express an interest in music, lessons are worthwhile. However, private in-person lessons can be expensive and presently not available during this time of COVID-19 precautions. Virtual lessons are easier on the family budget with normally more economical fees, savings on gas and the time for transporting and waiting for the duration of the lessons.

With the practice of social distancing, our children can complete their classes in their pajamas, and music lessons are no exception. They may also feel less stress if not able to grasp a musical concept right away, since they will not have pressure from their peers.
