Dachshund lovers gather for long-short celebration

On the summer solstice – the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, and the shortest in the southern hemisphere – people gather around the world to celebrate, fittingly, the long-short dog: the dachshund. 

For Kizzie Jones, a dachshund enthusiast, children’s book author, and organizer of the Edmonds celebration, the only events that took precedence over these beloved dogs were Father’s Day and the Edmonds Arts Festival, which coincided with the solstice on June 21. 

This year, dachshund owners convened a week later on Sunday, June 28, at Civic Center Playfield to celebrate their pups and support dachshund rescue efforts.
